UFC President Dana White said Thursday that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would likely make his return in July. Right now, Lesnar’s return is targeted for UFC 116 on July 3 in Las Vegas.
While the event is in the works and expected to take place, a venue for the event has not yet been determined and the UFC has yet to request the date with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Lesnar (4-1) hasn’t fought since a successful title defense of Frank Mir last July at UFC 100, as medical issues forced him to withdraw from a November matchup against Shane Carwin.
Lesnar is expected to face the winner of an interim title bout between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin set for March’s UFC 111. The backup plan is for Lesnar to take on the winner of a February matchup between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira should the Mir-Carwin winner be unable to fight in July.
